How I can finish the furniture in the primitive style of antiques?
My husband, a wonderful carpenter, going to build an entertainment center to completely enclose all your electronics and modern looking that do not match my primitive country living! I need suggestions on where to find information on how to finish it in the primitive style - well used and old instantly! I think I want to do a two-tone finish - a dark red to black, but I'm sure whether a crackle finish or distress the edges, etc. Any suggestions?
Well, if you want to end creaking under black and red paint ..... up in red first, then a 50/50 mix of regular old white glue and water, brush on, let dry, then paint black. After paint dry with a hair dryer and you get the same finish as you would with the most expensive paintings crackle finish. Trust me, been there done that .. and I saw the same thing being done on HGTV a few weeks ago. If you want a simple distressed finish, or old worn finish. It is a matter of making a finished two-tone, a tone or. Depending on the look you want to go. All you have to do is paint the edges with the virtue of tone, that is, if you want a two tone finish. Then paint the coat, and lightly sand the edges to expose under protection. Finish with a spray varnish or poly-type or eurethane.
