The term “kegerator” is a combination of the words "keg" and "refrigerator". This is a relatively new word in the dictionary and a perfect exemplar of how language could be very dynamic.
Kegerators may be a specialized appliance built for the sole purpose of dispensing beer at home. Some of them are actually modified refrigerators redesigned to accommodate kegs and dispense their contents.

The very first kegerators were likely brought out with the revival of the home brew in the 80s. Home brewing was made legal again by an act of congress after being outlawed from 1920 to1933.
