Wine Travel - New York Road Niagara wine is a bright star

And while the fate of this trip is well known, we also to inform you of a friendly city, good, frankly, probably should not be seen on many lists.

The New York State New Wine Scene

Wine and grape growing have long been part of New York. New York is consistently in the 10 states in terms of growing grapes and wine production, and has more than 100 wineries. Wine Trails abound here, from Long Island to the beautiful Finger Lakes, and many more. Most of the climate state and topography are ideal for viticulture and wine production has been booming since the late 1800's.

Western New York is a particularly ideal for wine lovers, such as proximity to two of the Great Lakes create a perfect microclimate for wine grapes. The Niagara Wine Route, just minutes from Niagara Falls and only half an hour from Buffalo, boasts about 12 wineries that offer a welcoming introduction to New York wine.

First Stop: Falls Niagara

Upon entering New York from the Pennsylvania border, we had our hearts in an afternoon visit to Niagara Falls. First discovered European settler by Louis Hennepin in 1678, the world has been beating a path here since. And the Falls always delivers! The spectacular waterfall is a will with the mouth and breathtaking views.

There are numerous places to see both the Horseshoe and American Falls in the U.S. or on the Canadian side, but the best place for really feel the Falls is located on the legendary Maid of the Mist. Before you step aboard, you will be bright blue rain raincoat with hood. As the puffs boat to the Falls, will be the rock and the shock waves on the water is turbulent. Ultimately, you are transported to the base of Horseshoe Falls. Here, the true power of the Falls looms before, with a roar so deafening that I can barely hear the captain dramatic announcement: "This is ... Niagara Falls."

Of course, there are many places to part with their money here, wax museum souvenir shops, helicopter rides. But no matter how you choose to experience Niagara Falls, we have only one advice: Bring plenty of film!

Buffalo Experience: Wings and other great things

After drying of our Lady of the exciting experience of the fog, it was time for the short drive to the city 20 minutes Lake Erie port of Buffalo. From reading the brochures that had collected in advance, they were intrigued by the promise of historic architecture, entertainment, fashion and shopping, and local food specialties.

We checked into our hotel, the Best Western Inn on the Avenue convenient to locate in our Stay 3 nights at the Buffalo-Niagara area. With a local specialty food in particular in our mind, we turn to an entity of Buffalo's famous Anchor Bar.

The Anchor Bar is, of course, known as the origin of buffalo wings. Since 1964, this neighborhood gem has been turning out various styles of chicken wings, a more delightful than the other. As good as the chicken wings are sure to try another specialty Buffalo, Beef and Weck. It is a sandwich of thinly sliced roast beef, which are presented on a roll Kimmelweck call a specialty, which is basically a round deli style bun with salt and onion on top of course. Washed down with a jar always wonderful Genesee Ale Cream, this is as close to heaven as in western New York! If this is what you're hungry, do not worry, Anchor Bar wings ship overnight all the country.

Over the next three days before and after visits to wineries, we find the experience and knowledge of Buffalo. This is a city proud, friendly and full of historic architecture live entertainment and shopping areas. It is also a city of four distinct seasons. Temperatures moderated by Lake Erie, and we found out that mercury has not reached 100 in Buffalo. In winter, the area around Buffalo is a paradise for skiers. So no matter their pursuit of choice, not something that awaits you in Buffalo. For a complete list of things to see and do, visit our recommendations section below.

Niagara Wine Route

The Niagara Wine Trail is very convenient to both Buffalo and Niagara Falls. From Downtown Buffalo is less than 1 / 2 hour with the main group of wineries, located west of the small village of Lockport, New York. Just take Route 425 north of Buffalo and follow winery signs.

There are 12 wineries on the road, of which 11 are in the middle of Niagara County. Even if you do not have the opportunity to visit the 12 as we did, take the time to enjoy the pleasant short drive from Buffalo or Niagara Falls to see one or two. This is an agricultural country, a paradise of fruit each increasing. There is a sense of serenity here, with rolling breezes of Lake Ontario a few miles north.

Wineries celebrate the passion here of wine, and you'll be lucky if the wine trail will be an event while you visit. You'll find everything from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Riesling, dessert wines and fruit wines. Of particular note, we found that most of the wineries on this road was a unique specialty, with almost everyone grapes and fruit from the immediate area. Let's meet each of the 12 wineries ...

Vizarra Vineyard: This is a great family destination, with two outdoor patios overlooking the vineyard and sunset, and opportunities for U-Pick orchard in the site. The vineyard itself is part of Becker Farms, a well-known attraction in this area.

There is a selection of red, white and specialty fruit wines here. We enjoyed the crispy and sweet Riesling Rusty In Cannon Falls, from the Niagara grape common in the region.

Eveningside Vineyards: Eveningside is a family farm winery (With gorgeous red barn!) That specializes in Chardonnay, Riesling and Cabernet Franc. We recommend especially the 2007 Riesling, an excellent example of the style, and flush Crofton, a semi sweet offer that is ideal for summer drinking.

Honeymoon Trail Winery: Have the perfect name for a winery in the Niagara area Niagara Honeymoon Trail offers a beautiful setting of the sample wines. Try the rich spicy Cabernet Franc and the white lace, a white blend of Riesling and Cayuga. Also took home two bottles of Just Peachy, a fruit crisp wine made from peaches grown New York.

Warm Lake Estate Pinot Noir is the Game name Real Hot Lake. Wine Spectator Pinot Noir constantly praises the number, the best of its kind in New York. Its expansive vineyards, accommodation only Pinot Noir, you can see from the cover.

Arrowhead Spring Vineyard: This attractive farm family winery has a wide variety grapes in a vineyard, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec and Chardonnay, all of which goes well in Niagara region. The result is a spectacular bit of wine we enjoy on this trip.

We loved the soft, buttery Chardonnay Barrel Fermented 2006, in particular. Another've added to our collection is the Network of Apogee, a delicious blend of European varieties is well on its own or with a meal.

Niagara Landing Wine: One of the oldest wineries in the region, landing Falls offers more than two dozen wine selections, along with an inviting gift shop with works by local artists.

Go to the White House, a fruity mixture and red Baco Noir, a complex berry and spice reds we've had. Another value wine here is singing red rooster, drinking red smooth. Last but not least, try to flush the boxer, the name of the family's pet boxer, Sir Arthur. Also of the note, found prices here to be a big business.

Spring Lake Winery: The vineyard in Spring Lake Winery is part of the quiet 78 acres, with an eight-acre lake and numerous walking trails. We enjoyed an invigorating hike two miles through the property before ending in the tasting room Tuscan style, where he dived and tried the Gewurztraminer, with its bouquet of apricot and banana. If you visit, be sure to ask about their trips by train wine, a cooperative effort between the winery and a local railway museum.

Chiappone Cellars: Located in a beautiful farm, located near the small Newfane town, Chiappone Cellars has a long tradition of wine making for three generations. We believe that whites were the stars here, in particular Morning Star, a dry riesling, but fruity wine that has won numerous awards. Also try Moonglow, a clean and smooth Traminette.

Vineyards and Schulze Winery: Just a stone's throw from the shores of Lake Ontario, Schulze Vineyards & Winery is situated on 120 acres of beautiful farm land. When you visit here I literally experience the fresh aroma of grapes and Lake Ontario, at the same time.

In his vineyard plantings include Cabernet Sauvignon current, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Catawba, Vidal, Niagara, and Riesling. In terms of wine, we had the pleasure of tasting some very interesting sparkling wines here before moving to its very well done Nouveau Blanc Cabernet Franc and Vidal, among others.

Freedom Run Winery: Freedom Run Winery is family owned and operated, with fragrant gardens surrounding the new tasting room. When we visited, 11 wines were available. We believe that the provision Manor Blanc was excellent, a blend of Cayuga White and Vidal Blanc, to make a pleasant and slightly sweet flavor. Also recommended is the Cabernet Franc, with big flavors of dark cherry and blackberry. Before leaving, make sure to see the different pieces of glass and ceramic art, handmade by one of the owners of free running and available for purchase through its website web.

Leonard Oakes Estate Winery: This brand new warehouse is the only member of the Niagara Wine Route outside Niagara County, because it is a Just over Orleans County line, just 5 minutes Vizcarra Vineyards. The official opening is in early July, but the wines and tasting room were ready to go when we visited a couple of weeks ago.

Leonard Oakes Estate wines are produced from grapes grown on site, and are fun and easy to drinking. Try the wonderful complex of Frontenac, with notes of dark fruit such as blackberries and plums. On the lighter side, opt for a true taste of the region with White Oakes a refreshing blend of Chardonnay, Seyval Blanc and Cayuga White.

The Winery at Marjim Manor: Finally, we would like to take you to the shores Lake Ontario, the magnificent grounds and the establishment of La Bodega in Marjim Manor. The location of the winery has an interesting history, serving several times as a grainery, a home, and even a convent. Some even say that the place is enchanted!

The wines, however, are very sincere and friendly. fruit wines rule the day here, all produced from a large garden of the owners. And this is an authentic place to sample wine and stay, with a commanding view of Lake Ontario. Found number of truly unique wines here, with one of our favorites is Thursday afternoon at three, a blend of Niagara grapes and peaches. Another was the target Hundred Windows, easy drink, fruit selection. Be sure to take your time here ... the setting and the grounds are impressive.

We divided these visits to wineries in a period three days, visiting up to four per day. The best part about this wine route is the proximity of the wineries ... not only an easy drive of each the other, but are very close to Buffalo as well.

The first leg of New York on this trip was a great combination of wineries and places of rural producers interest of the city. In essence, the best of both worlds. We hope that this issue sparked his interest in this area came and understated stage production!

The Niagara Wine Route is one of many very nice wine travel destinations in this part of the country. New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio, are full of wineries and wine tours, so be sure to put these destinations in their wine want to travel.
