I want to change the look of our kitchen table-IT is very light oak-PAINT? Decoupage?
I found the perfect "size and shape" kitchen table, but I hate the color, my work in wood is a dark honey / maple, and the table is (blonde?) very light oak. I was thinking, "I can paint this? Or maybe Decoupage (could use family photos on the surface of the table?). home 'My subject is cottage/country- any suggestions? Or should I leave him alone?
You can decoupage the photos at the top, but be careful. You will need to lightly sand the surface if there is a sealer on wood. Or you can use a liquid product of sand, like the Walk to give the tooth surface for decoupage medium to adhere. Also photos, I have used copy and found that the ink used in the printer Flatbed smear when wet or when the medium decoupage (which is actually white glue and water) goes through the top. Once you remove the stain sealant, also surface can be painted with latex paint, but I would like first cousin with a good stain blocking primer such as Zinsser. You can then use two layers of latex painting. But if you decoupage or paint, because it is a kitchen table subject to spills and food, be sure to seal with polyurethane non-yellowing, UVB / UVA protection, such as Varathane.
